Graduation is a monumental milestone, and capturing this special moment with a photography session is a wonderful way to preserve the memories. If you’re heading to the University of Central Florida (UCF) for a graduation photo shoot, you’re in for a treat! With its beautiful campus, iconic landmarks, and the option to include a beloved pet, UCF offers countless opportunities for memorable and unique graduation photos. Here’s a guide to help you make the most out of your session:

1. Planning the Perfect Shoot

Before you head to UCF, it’s essential to plan your session carefully. Here are some key steps to ensure everything goes smoothly:

  • Schedule Your Session: Book your photographer well in advance, especially around graduation season when schedules can fill up quickly!
  • Scout Locations: Visit the campus beforehand to identify the best spots for your photos. UCF's expansive grounds offer a range of picturesque settings.
  • Coordinate Outfits: Choose outfits that reflect your personality and complement the campus backdrop. Don’t forget to include your cap and gown!

2. Iconic Campus Locations

UCF’s campus is home to several iconic spots that are perfect for graduation photos. I have a couple favorite go-to spots

The Reflecting Pond

This serene location offers a beautiful, tranquil backdrop. The water reflects the surrounding greenery, creating a stunning visual effect that can add a touch of elegance to your photos.

Topper's Creamery

There is a small area right behind this building that has the prettiest flowers and seating. I love sneaking over here to get away from the crowds and get some beautiful portraits!

John C. Hitt Library

The library is a great spot whether it is the front by the reflecting pond, or in the back with the windows. Taking a couple photos inside is also an option!

Student Union/ Boardwalk

I love going to the boardwalk area right behind the student union. It's within walking distance to the reflecting pond, and if it is getting hot we can pop right back into the building to cool off!

3. Including Your Furry Friend

Incorporating a beloved pet into your graduation photos can make the session even more special. Here are some tips for including your dog in the shoot:

  • Prepare Your Dog: Ensure your dog is comfortable around people and can follow basic commands. It might be helpful to bring treats or toys to keep them engaged.
  • Choose Dog-Friendly Spots: Some areas on campus might be more suitable for pets. The open spaces at Memory Mall or the Arboretum could be great places for your dog to enjoy while still being part of the photo session.
  • Safety First: Make sure your dog is leashed and under control at all times. It’s also a good idea to have someone help manage the dog while you’re getting ready for different shots.

4. Timing and Lighting

Lighting plays a crucial role in photography, so consider these tips:

  • Morning: I love shooting in the morning! I find it to be a great time where it is not too busy, and we can beat any afternoon Florida storms!
  • Golden Hour: The hour after sunrise and before sunset provides soft, golden light that is flattering for photos. Plan your session during these times to achieve the best lighting.
  • Avoid Midday Sun: The harsh midday sun can create unflattering shadows and highlights. If you must shoot during the day, try to find shaded areas or use reflectors to manage the light.

5. Creative Shots and Poses

To make your graduation photos stand out, think creatively about your poses and compositions:

  • Cap Toss: Capture the excitement of graduation with a classic cap toss shot. Make sure to time it right and take several photos to get the perfect moment.
  • Walking Shots: Natural, candid shots of you walking through the campus or alongside your dog can create a sense of movement and joy.
  • Close-Ups: Don’t forget to take close-up shots of your cap, gown, and any special accessories you might be wearing. These details can be cherished for years to come.
  • Special Items: Bring anything that makes you unique! Flags, stuffed animals, books, friends are all great examples! I love to incorporate anything that is special to you.

Conclusion

Photographing a graduation session at the University of Central Florida offers a fantastic opportunity to celebrate this significant achievement in a memorable way. With its stunning campus locations, the option to include a beloved pet, and a bit of creativity, your photos will capture not just your graduation day but also the joy and excitement of this milestone. Enjoy the process, and here’s to creating beautiful memories that you’ll cherish for years to come!
