Celebrating 30 in Style: My Sparkling Self-Portrait Session
Turning 30 is a milestone that deserves a celebration, and what better way to mark the occasion than with a creative self-portrait session? For my big 3-0, I decided to make this photo shoot as unique and memorable as the year itself. To complete the look, I perched on an apple box. This simple prop elevated me just enough to create a striking composition and allowed for some creative angles. Lighting and Lens Tricks
For the lighting, I used a single light source with a snoot positioned directly in front of me. The snoot helped concentrate the light, highlighting my features and creating a beautiful, controlled illumination. The focused beam added a touch of drama and made the sparkle of the Mylar really pop.
To add an extra layer of creativity, I played with my lens setup. I started with a piece of cling wrap smeared with Vaseline over my lens. This created a soft, dreamy effect that blurred the background and gave the whole image a magical, ethereal quality. Midway through the session, I decided to cut a hole in the cling wrap. This allowed for a sharper focus on me while keeping the rest of the background delightfully blurry. The contrast between the sharp foreground and the soft background added a playful and artistic touch.
